New International Flights from India in 2026: Destinations & Airlines
India's aviation sector is undergoing a historic expansion. With IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa Air all adding wide-body jets and new international routes, 2026 is set to be the most connected India has ever been.
Key New Routes Launching or Expanding in 2026
Air India Wide-Body Expansion
Following the Tata Group acquisition, Air India has placed one of the largest aircraft orders in aviation history — 470 planes. New wide-body routes being phased in through 2025–2026:
- Delhi – Melbourne (non-stop) — Air India's first Australia direct route
- Mumbai – Milan (non-stop)
- Delhi – Copenhagen (seasonal)
- Bengaluru – Frankfurt (new frequency)
IndiGo International Push
IndiGo is transitioning from a purely domestic budget carrier to a serious international player:
- Delhi – Nairobi (Kenya) — first direct India–East Africa route
- Mumbai – Bali (expanding frequency)
- Chennai – Kuala Lumpur (new direct)
- Hyderabad – Singapore (additional daily service)
Vistara → Air India Merger Aftermath
Following the Vistara–Air India merger in 2024, many Vistara international routes are being absorbed and expanded under the Air India brand, including popular London, Singapore, and Dubai routes.
Akasa Air International (2026 Entry)
Akasa Air received its international ATOL certification in 2024. Planned international routes for 2026 include:
- Mumbai – Kathmandu
- Delhi – Bangkok
- Bengaluru – Colombo
Cheaper Flights Due to Competition
The IndiGo–Air India competition for international routes is already driving fares down on key corridors. Key routes where competition is pricing fares lower:
- Delhi/Mumbai → Dubai: From ₹9,000–14,000 return
- Delhi/Mumbai → Bangkok: From ₹12,000–18,000 return
- Delhi/Mumbai → Singapore: From ₹15,000–22,000 return
- Delhi/Mumbai → London: From ₹45,000–65,000 return (peak season higher)
New Airports Boosting Connectivity
Navi Mumbai International Airport
Scheduled to handle its first commercial flights in 2026. This will dramatically reduce congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai) and open up new slot capacity for international routes.
Noida International Airport (Jewar)
The Delhi–NCR region's second international airport is advancing construction for an expected 2026–2027 opening. Eventually, it will be one of Asia's largest airports.
Goa's Manohar International Airport (Mopa)
Now fully operational. Provides a second runway option for Goa — critical for peak winter/Christmas season when the old Dabolim airport was chronically congested.
Gulf Carriers — Still Dominant
Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, and Air Arabia continue to dominate Indian outbound travel with their extensive hub-and-spoke networks:
- Emirates: 9 Indian cities connected to 100+ destinations via Dubai
- Qatar Airways: 8 Indian cities via Doha — strong for Europe and Americas
- Etihad: Strong on UK, US, and Australia routes via Abu Dhabi
- IndiGo–Turkish Airlines codeshare: Provides connectivity to 300+ destinations via Istanbul
Tips for Booking Flights in 2026
- Book 3–6 months ahead for peak season (December–January, April–May school holidays, September–October festive season).
- Use Google Flights or Skyscanner and set price alerts — fares fluctuate significantly.
- Avoid booking connecting flights with < 2-hour layovers in peak season at busy hubs (Dubai, Doha, Singapore) — missed connections are expensive.
- Check for codeshare routes — Air India + Lufthansa (Star Alliance) and IndiGo + Turkish offer competitive through-fares.
- Travel insurance with flight cancellation cover is essential — new routes sometimes get withdrawn, and you want protection.
India Departure Tax & Charges
When booking international flights, all published fares include:
- Passenger Service Fee (PSF): ₹150–430 depending on airport
- User Development Fee (UDF): ₹1,000–2,500 depending on terminal
- CUTE/CUSS charges at some airports
- Airport Security Fee (ASF)
These are bundled in the "taxes and fees" line item at booking. The base fare shown on budget carriers can look low — always check the total before comparing.
